Weekly Roundup: final days of April

I can't believe April's almost over. Probably the busiest (and most fun!) month for me, I have had something going on every weekend. This one's no different; I'm on my way to a wedding in San Diego today. Weddings aren't really my bag, baby, but here's hoping there's an open bar and some good looking gentlemen who can dance. Because lord knows, I can't.

Happy (belated) Earth Day!

Music: Loving Kid Cudi's surprise album Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon. This is not shocking; I sincerely believe almost anything he touches turns to gold. This LP's darker, and we get even more inside the haunted head of Scott Mescudi. He described it as the bridge between last year's Indicud and the final part of his Man on the Moon trilogy, coming in 2015. I wait with baited breath for its release, but until then, Satellite Flight is an amazing tide-over.

Food: Seriously? My mom's homemade lasagna leftovers that I've been eating all week because of complete lack of desire to cook. Or do anything. Being sick sucks. As far as local shout outs, I've been hanging out at 3rd and U Cafe during my hour between getting off work and my night class, eating carnitas street tacos and drinking 2/$5 beer. I show up to lecture a little sleepy, but who doesn't when it's at 6 pm?

Mussels at the Dunsmuir Brewery Works last weekend!
Reads: Because of my (relatively) light final quarter as an undergraduate, I am finding time to read for pleasure once again. This week, I started On Beauty by Zadie Smith. It's just what I was looking for, delicate yet poignant, a slice of life that is quite thought-provoking. And it is serving as a wonderful contemporary companion to the novel I was assigned to read this week in my US History class, Passing by Nella Larsen, which I also recommend.

Fashion: This week, Gap was having a huge sale and everything regular price in the store was 40% off. It was amazing. I bought their 1969 always skinny skimmer jeans in bells wash, and am in love with the not quite white-not quite blue color. This is exciting for me, because my jeans come in pretty much one color: black. It's been a fairly recent foray into even denim colored hues. As for the wedding tomorrow, I'm rocking Madewell's Silk Slowdance Cami Dress but toughening it up with some metal hardware, black shoes, and, if it gets chilly in SD, my leather jacket. It's all about that elusive perfect balance between hard and soft.

Word: wedding |ˈwediNG| [ noun ] a marriage ceremony usually with its accompanying festivities : The wedding will be at 4 pm.
And now, last-minute packing calls. Until next Friday!
